Jamaica 50

Jamaica, 2012 – 2015

People Bridge was expanded in 2012 to be the non-profit organization that funds Projects in Jamaica based on the net revenues from the Jamaica 50 Celebration initiatives undertaken in Toronto. This resulted in the following  Project initiatives:

A.   Rise life management services:

In September 2012 we funded the first of two phases of a program to establish an Inner-City Youth Social Enterprise program. This program provides skills training and employment for around 250 youth including people with disabilities in six volatile inner-city communities. Communities targeted are – Waterhouse, Drewsland, Towerhill, Tel-A-Viv, Southside, Fletchers Land, and Allman Town. To learn more about RISE http://www.risejamaica.org

B. Jamaica Ministry of Health – Family Health Services Vaccination Equiptment:

This Project provided an Infantometer and vaccine refrigerator to the St. Thomas Child Health Centre and 17 Coolers for transporting vaccinations to remote locations in St. Thomas.  This would improve that region’s ability to meet the WHO standards for child vaccinations.  The Project was completed in 2012.

C. The Alpha Boys School – Screen Printing & Music Workshop:

The Project provided expansion and enhancements to their screen-printing vocation training and production facilities for the Alpha Wear JA clothing line. This expansion will provide the at  risk and marginalized boys resident       at  the school with marketable vocational skills as well as ensure the program’s sustainability. The Project was completed in 2014.

D. Community Based Rehabilitation Jamaica (CBRJ):

People Bridge partnered with CBRJ in support of their initiatives to improve the services for children and adolescents with varying range of disabilities. Presently services are provided for over 600 children in four rural Parishes: St. Catherine, Manchester, St. Elizabeth and St. James. CBRJ was formed in June 2011 through the merger of two agencies; namely, Three D Projects and Rural Services For Children with Disabilities agencies that have been in existence since 1982.
