Alpha Boys School screen printing training facility

Jamaica 2015

Alpha Boys is a vocational school serving over 80 at-risk boys in Jamaica since 1880. Managed by the Religious Sisters of Mercy since 1884, the school is best known for its music programme which has graduated many of Jamaica’s musical pioneers such as the “Scatalites” and “Yellowman”. In addition to music the boys are offered vocational training in agriculture, woodworking, tailoring and most recently screen printing.

The school has expanded their screen-printing vocation training and production facilities for the Alpha Wear JA clothing line now sold at retail outlets and internationally. People Bridge has helped to sponsor this project.  This expansion will provide the at-risk and marginalized boys at the school with marketable vocational skills as well as ensure the program’s sustainability through improved screen printing and increased sales.
